About Us

We're here to make nutrition personal. Our team is made up of scientific brains and storyteller hearts, with a wide range of backgrounds and competencies. Our passions range from wellness, to art, e-commerce and more, but we all share an inspiration to make the world a healthier place.

Our History

Setu was founded in 2017 by Nihaal and Trisha Mariwala,

but the story of the company goes back centuries. It's been something of a journey to get where we are today, and we've learned a lot on the way.

Kanji Morarji

1857

The Mariwala family’s first foray into the world of spices. Kanji Morarji, Nihaal’s great-great-grandfather, produced bags that were used to package and ship pepper and other spices.

Vallabhdas Vasanji

1900

Morarji's son, Vallabhdas Vasanji, chose to dive deeper into the spice trade and became a trading agent on the docks of Mumbai.

Pepper spices

1924

Under Vasanji, the company grew from trading spices to sourcing, growing, and manufacturing them. Pepper was their primary breadwinner, hence the family name: ‘Mari’ means ‘pepper’ and ‘wala’ here means ‘person’.

Sanjaya Mariwala

1984

Fast forward to the latter half of the 20th century. Nihaal’s father, Sanjaya Mariwala, realised that Indian spices were being used in food, but their health benefits were being overlooked.

Sanjaya North America

1989

The West slowly realized that India contained a trove of high-quality natural spices, and they wanted in. Sanjaya began exporting spices to North America.

Sanjaya OmniActive

2004

Sanjaya founded his own nutraceuticals company, OmniActive, to provide customers with natural and innovative solutions to simple, self-diagnosable problems.

Nihaal Trisha

2017

Nihaal who worked with his dad, Sanjaya for a decade, and Trisha, who perfected the art of selling books on Amazon, founded Setu.

The Present

An honest nutrition brand that gives you simple, scientific, and practical solutions for a healthier lifestyle.

We know that being healthy isn’t easy.

Avoiding screens isn’t easy. Falling asleep on time isn’t either. Going to that morning workout, getting that dental checkup, spending enough time in the sun, reading through an ingredients list and hoping that pill in your hand won’t grow you a tail if you swallow it... None of it is easy.

Setu Understands

That’s why we make supplements that make sense.

Supplements that are made from high-quality and clinically validated ingredients. You should always know what you’re putting into your body, which is why we’re always upfront about what our products contain, what they do, and what you can expect from them.

The Experts

They’re great at science and even better at common sense, which is why we recommend discussing your health status and goals with them before you buy a Setu product. They’re terrible salespeople, so they won’t sell you anything you don’t need.
