TV Shows To Help Lighten The Mood
Schitt’s Creek (6 Seasons)
Available on Netflix, Schitt’s Creek won nine Emmys in 2020. The show is about a rich family that lost all their wealth and had to move into a suburban town that they bought as a joke. It takes you through the journey of these characters as they cope with living together, adjusting to their new lifestyle and bonding. With marvelous character development, phenomenal comic timing and of course Catherine O’Hara’s wardrobe and accent, it’s a must-watch. It will leave you confused about whether you are crying because you laughed too hard or because they won your heart, episode after episode.
Modern Family (11 Seasons)
Modern Family is a documentary-style sitcom that takes you on a ride with all the characters as they discover life, themselves and show you how to be the best version of yourself. Set in Los Angeles, it follows the lives and the highs & lows of three extremely diverse families. The beauty of it is that you will be able to relate to the characters on a personal level. A tearjerker, heartwarmer, laughter-infuser and just a whirlwind of comedy. You can’t miss out on this one! Available on Hotstar and worth the premium membership.
The Big Bang Theory (12 Seasons)
The Big Bang Theory is a show set in Pasadena, California which revolves around four genius friends (scientists, to be precise) who work at Caltech and spend most of their free time at a comic book store. The jokes are nerdy and if you like science you’ll surely get a kick out of it. You will never get tired of their catchphrases, or the science thrown at you in the form of jokes. You will love and tolerate these nerdy guys as you watch them discover themselves. Watch this absolute banging blockbuster on Netflix or Amazon Prime.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S (10 Seasons)
If you haven’t watched at least one episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S, you’ve probably been living under a rock (no offense). This show is about six friends who basically live together in New York City and navigate life. It shows you the true meaning of friendship where they tease each other, support each other and stand up for each other. It may be a little old, but it is definitely witty, funny, engaging and relatable even today. I bet your favorite character is going to be Chandler. We’re all Chandlers in one way or another. Watch it on Netflix when you have nothing to do and everything to do.
The Office (9 Seasons)
The Office is one of the greatest shows of all time. Set in Scranton, Pennsylvania the show follows a documentary set-up that revolves around Dunder Mifflin, a small paper company and a boss no one wishes they had, but secretly wishes they did. It has comedy that is timeless and shows phenomenal character development. It has pranks that are out of this world and just an all-in-all perfection in the humor department. It will leave you wishing it never ended and googling if they’re having a reboot soon. At the same time, you’d admire how perfect the ending was too. Watch this timeless comedy on Amazon Prime Video.
Brooklyn 99 (7 Seasons, On-Going)
Brooklyn 99 was canceled by FOX and picked up by NBC within 24 hours. That’s how many riots the canceling of the show caused. Brooklyn 99 is a comedy set in the 99th precinct in Brooklyn, New York. This cop-comedy has a diverse cast of characters and they each bring a different flavor to the show. With cuteness, wittiness, fun, games and laughter all rolled into one, this show is bound to make you feel all the emotions you’re not prepared for. Masaba Masaba (1 Season, On-Going)
Masaba Masaba is a light-hearted comedy-drama that is inspired by the lives of Masaba Gupta and her mother Neena Gupta. While the show takes inspiration from their lives, it is not a reality show. Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai
Last but not the least, Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai is a family favorite. With extremely talented comic actors, Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai commands the viewer’s attention like no other show. It is extremely entertaining to watch Monisha, a girl from a middle-class background, adjust into a rich family where her mother-in-law is the one who has more trouble adjusting to Monisha’s way of life. Packed with love, laughter and taunts, it is everything you’d hope an Indian sitcom would be and more. Watch this powerhouse on Hotstar if you’re feeling blue because if this doesn’t lift your spirits, we don’t know what will.
